Glitch text on every platform: limits, rules and templates
Published September 23, 2026 · Updated November 5, 2026
Where glitch and zalgo text works on Discord, Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp, Roblox, Minecraft, Facebook and X, field by field, with the limits each platform publishes and what gets rejected.
Platforms count "characters" differently, and most don't document how they count combining marks. X does (each mark counts individually), and a few fields are limited by display width instead of a strict count. "Not published" means the platform's own help and developer docs don't state a limit for that field. This table is one place to check the tightest field on each platform before you commit heavy glitch intensity to a username, bio, or post. Below the table, each platform has its full field-by-field breakdown, rules, templates and FAQs. Make the text itself with thezalgo text generator.
| Platform | Tightest field | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Instagram Bio | 150 chars | |
| Discord | Discord Nickname | 32 chars |
| WhatsApp Group Name | 100 chars | |
| TikTok | TikTok Name | 30 chars |
| Profile intro | Not published | |
| Minecraft | Sign line | Not published |
| Roblox | Display name | Not published |
| X (Twitter) | X Bio | 160 chars |
Glitch text on Instagram
Glitch text is ordinary Unicode, so you can paste it into a bio, caption or comment like any other text. Instagram’s help pages don’t say how combining marks are handled, and how they look depends on the viewer’s phone, so check your profile after saving.
Key takeaway: Instagram bios are limited to 150 characters. Instagram doesn’t say how stacked marks count toward that, but every mark is an extra character in the text even though it doesn’t look like one, so heavy zalgo uses the budget fast. Keep bio text light.
| Field | Limit | Glitch safety | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Profile Bio | 150 characters | Moderate | Every stacked mark adds to the text, so keep intensity low. |
| Post Captions | 2,200 characters (publishing API) | Safe | Plenty of room for heavier zalgo. |
| Profile Name | Not published | Moderate | Keep it short so the name stays readable. |
How to avoid getting rejected on Instagram
- For bios, stick to the Subtle preset or low sliders. Bios are limited to 150 characters, and heavy zalgo adds several marks to every letter.
- Captions have far more room than the bio (Instagram’s publishing API allows up to 2,200 characters), so they’re the place for heavier zalgo.
- Use glitch text in your name or bio, not your @username. People type your username to find and mention you, and when a username is taken, Instagram suggests adding periods, numbers or underscores, not symbols.
- Keep glitch text in your profile name short and readable. Instagram doesn’t publish a length limit for names.
Instagram templates
- Centered Bio Header:
⠀⠀⠀⟡ G̷L̷I̷T̷C̷H̷ ⟡(Use invisible braille spaces (U+2800) to align glitch text in your bio.) - Aesthetic Line Break:
✦ ─────────── ✦ v̷o̷i̷d̷ ̷s̷o̷u̷l̷(Combine glitch words with aesthetic Unicode separators.)
Does glitch text work in an Instagram bio?
You can paste it like any other text. Bios are limited to 150 characters, and Instagram doesn’t say how combining marks count toward that, so keep the intensity low and check that the whole bio saved.
Why does Instagram reject my bio when I paste glitch text?
Most likely length. Bios are limited to 150 characters, and every stacked mark is an extra character in the text even though it doesn’t look like one. Lower the "Through" and "Above" sliders and try again.
Does glitch text work in Instagram captions and comments?
You can paste it into both. Captions have far more room than the bio (up to 2,200 characters through Instagram’s publishing API). Instagram doesn’t publish a length limit for comments.
Will Instagram shadowban or flag accounts using glitch text?
Instagram’s help pages don’t mention decorative Unicode either way. Glitch text is ordinary text, not a script or exploit, and Instagram’s Community Guidelines apply to what your text says. We can’t promise how Instagram’s recommendation systems treat it.
Glitch text on Discord
Discord accepts combining marks in messages, and its developer docs say names “can contain most valid unicode characters”. In messages, though, Discord trims each letter to 5 marks when you press send (our November 2026 test).
Key takeaway: Server nicknames and display names are limited to 32 characters. Discord doesn’t document how combining marks count toward that, and heavy glitch text adds several marks to every letter, so it may not fit. Use the Subtle preset for nicknames.
| Field | Limit | Glitch safety | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Server Nickname | 32 characters | Moderate | How stacked marks count isn’t documented. |
| Global Display Name | 32 characters | Moderate | How stacked marks count isn’t documented. |
| Chat Message (Standard) | 2,000 characters | Moderate | Discord keeps at most 5 marks per letter (our test). |
| Chat Message (Nitro) | 4,000 characters | Moderate | More room, but expect the same per-letter trim. |
How to avoid getting rejected on Discord
- Nicknames and display names: keep intensity low on all sliders. Both are limited to 32 characters, and Discord doesn’t document how stacked marks count.
- Chat Messages: Discord keeps at most 5 combining marks per letter when you send a message, and trims long messages further (we tested it in November 2026). Your message box shows the full text, but everyone else sees the trimmed version, so use the Subtle preset or keep sliders low.
- Channel names can be 1–100 characters. We haven’t tested how combining marks survive in channel names, so check the result after saving.
- Server names can be 2–100 characters, which leaves room for a glitched word or two in a horror or gaming community name.
Discord templates
- Spoiler Glitch:
||g̷l̷i̷t̷c̷h̷||(Wrap corrupted text in spoiler tags to reveal on click.) - Bold Header Glitch:
# **g̷l̷i̷t̷c̷h̷**(Combine markdown H1 (# ) and bold (**) for huge server announcements.)
Will Discord ban or mute me for using glitch text?
Discord’s rules don’t single out glitch text, which is ordinary Unicode. But walls of heavy zalgo that flood a channel can break a server’s own rules against spam or disruption, so check the server rules.
How do I fit glitch text into a Discord nickname?
Nicknames are limited to 32 characters, and Discord doesn’t document how combining marks count toward that. Use our "Subtle Static" preset, keep the nickname to a few letters, and watch the counter above, which counts every mark.
Does glitch text work in Discord server names and channels?
Server names can be 2–100 characters and channel names 1–100. We haven’t tested how combining marks hold up in either, so check the name after saving.
Glitch text on WhatsApp
In our November 2026 test, WhatsApp Web delivered zalgo text byte for byte, including 20 combining marks on a single letter.
Key takeaway: Group names are limited to 100 characters, and the "About" text on your profile to 50. Heavy glitch text adds several marks to every letter, so keep it light in those fields. In chats, very heavy zalgo can spill over neighbouring messages.
| Field | Limit | Glitch safety | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Group Subject / Name | 100 characters | Moderate | Best with subtle or aesthetic glitch. |
| Profile About Field | 50 characters | Restricted | Short field: one lightly glitched word. |
| Chat Message | Not published | Safe | Every mark arrived intact in our test. |
How to avoid getting rejected on WhatsApp
- Group Names: Keep glitch intensity low to ensure the group title remains readable for all members in notification banners.
- Status Updates: statuses disappear after 24 hours, so they’re a low-risk place to try heavier glitch text.
- Native Markdown: You can combine glitch text with WhatsApp’s formatting syntax: wrap in asterisks (*g̷l̷i̷t̷c̷h̷*) for bold, underscores (_g̷l̷i̷t̷c̷h̷_) for italic, or tildes (~g̷l̷i̷t̷c̷h̷~) for strikethrough.
WhatsApp templates
- Bold WhatsApp Glitch:
*g̷l̷i̷t̷c̷h̷*(Surround with asterisks for extra visual impact.) - Monospace Glitch:
```g̷l̷i̷t̷c̷h̷```(Surround with triple backticks for monospace hacker vibe.)
Does WhatsApp support glitch or fancy fonts?
Yes in our testing: WhatsApp Web delivered zalgo text exactly as pasted, including 20 marks on one letter (full results). Fancy fonts are ordinary Unicode characters, so you paste them like any other text.
Will glitch text crash WhatsApp?
It didn’t in our November 2026 test, where WhatsApp Web delivered heavy zalgo intact (full results). Very heavy text can spill over neighbouring messages, so go lighter if that bothers you.
How do I use glitch text in my WhatsApp status?
Type your text into the generator above, click "Copy", start a new text status in WhatsApp, and paste.
Glitch text on TikTok
Glitch text is ordinary Unicode, so you can paste it into a caption, comment or text overlay like any other text. TikTok’s help pages don’t mention combining marks, so check how it looks before you post.
Key takeaway: Your profile name is limited to 30 characters and can only be changed once every 7 days. Heavy glitch text adds several marks to every letter, so keep names to a word or two at low intensity, and test before you save.
| Field | Limit | Glitch safety | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Username | 2–24 characters | Blocked | Letters, numbers, underscores and periods only. |
| Profile Name | 30 characters | Moderate | Changeable once every 7 days. |
| Video Description | 2,200 characters | Safe | Room for heavier glitch text. |
| Profile Bio | Not published | Restricted | Keep glitched words short. |
How to avoid getting rejected on TikTok
- Profile Name: limited to 30 characters. We recommend keeping "Through" at 0% and "Above/Below" under 30%.
- Video Descriptions: TikTok allows up to 2,200 characters, plenty of room for a few heavy zalgo words plus hashtags.
- Usernames: TikTok usernames can only contain letters, numbers, underscores and periods, so keep glitch text for your name, bio and captions.
TikTok templates
- Aesthetic TikTok Caption:
void // c̷o̷r̷r̷u̷p̷t̷ #fyp(Pair corrupted keywords with trending hashtags.)
Can I use glitch text as my TikTok @username?
No. TikTok usernames can only contain letters, numbers, underscores and periods. Put glitch text in your profile name, bio or captions instead.
Why won’t TikTok save my glitch text?
Most likely length. Every stacked mark is an extra character in the text even though it doesn’t look like one, and profile names are capped at 30 characters. TikTok doesn’t document how it counts marks, so lower the sliders and try again.
Does glitch text work in TikTok video text stickers?
You can paste it into a text overlay: when editing a video, tap Text and paste your copied glitch text. Check the preview, since the overlay font may draw the marks differently.
Glitch text on Facebook
Glitch text is ordinary Unicode, so you can paste it into posts, comments and your profile intro like any other text. Facebook’s help pages don’t mention combining marks. The one place Facebook’s rules clearly rule it out is your name.
Key takeaway: Facebook’s name rules don’t allow “symbols, numbers, unusual capitalisation, repeating characters or punctuation” or “characters from multiple languages”. Keep glitch text out of your profile name and use it in your intro or posts instead.
| Field | Limit | Glitch safety | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Account Name | Not published | Blocked | Name rules exclude symbols and mixed scripts. |
| Profile Intro / Bio | Not published | Moderate | Short bio box on personal profiles. |
| Status Post | Not published | Safe | The place for heavier glitch styling. |
How to avoid getting rejected on Facebook
- Account Names: Facebook’s name rules exclude symbols, punctuation and characters from multiple languages. Don’t use glitch text in your profile name.
- Profile Intro: Facebook doesn’t publish the intro’s length limit, so preview before saving and keep intensity moderate.
- Posts & Comments: use them for heavier glitch styling, and keep your name plain.
Facebook templates
- Facebook Post Headline:
【 ⚠️ C̷O̷R̷R̷U̷P̷T̷E̷D̷ ⚠️ 】(Frame glitch text with brackets and symbols to make a headline stand out.)
Can I put glitch text in my Facebook name?
No. Facebook’s name rules don’t allow symbols, punctuation or characters from multiple languages. Use glitch text in your intro, posts or comments instead.
Does glitch text show properly on Facebook mobile apps?
Facebook doesn’t document it. Combining marks are drawn by the device’s own text engine, so how they look can vary between iOS, Android and desktop. Preview the post before sharing it widely.
Does glitch text work in Facebook Messenger?
Facebook doesn’t document it, and we haven’t tested Messenger. The name rules cover only your profile name, not messages, your intro or comments.
Glitch text on Minecraft
Minecraft’s changelog for Java Edition snapshot 23w17a says its Unicode font moved to Unifont 15.0.01 and that combining characters no longer draw over a dotted circle. Mojang doesn’t document how Bedrock Edition handles them, so check in game.
Key takeaway: Your Java profile name (up to 16 characters) isn’t the place for glitch text. Use it in chat, on signs, in books and in item names instead, or in a server nickname where the server allows it.
| Field | Limit | Glitch safety | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Java Profile Name | 16 characters | Restricted | Keep it plain; use glitch text in game instead. |
| Server Nickname (/nick) | 16 by default (EssentialsX) | Restricted | Letters, numbers and _ only unless the admin allows more. |
| In-game Signs | Width-limited | Restricted | Keep intensity low. |
How to avoid getting rejected on Minecraft
- Signs: each line only fits so much width, and stacked marks make every letter heavier, so keep intensity low for sign text.
- Chat: every stacked mark is an extra character in the text, so heavy zalgo on a full sentence hits the chat length cap much sooner than plain text. Glitch a word or two, not the whole message.
- Server Nicknames: EssentialsX, a popular nickname plugin, only allows letters, numbers and underscores in /nick by default. A server admin has to change that setting before glitch nicknames work.
Minecraft templates
- Color-Coded Lore Book:
§4§lc̷u̷r̷s̷e̷d̷(Only where the server or a plugin applies § formatting codes: §4 is dark red, §l is bold.)
Can I use glitch text as my Minecraft IGN?
We don’t recommend it. Java profile names can be up to 16 characters, and Mojang doesn’t document support for combining marks in them. Use glitch text in chat, on signs, in books and in item names instead.
How do I use glitch text on Minecraft signs?
Copy the glitched text from this page, right-click a sign in Minecraft, and press Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on Mac) to paste it onto the sign. Each line only fits so much width, so keep intensity low for sign text.
Does glitch text use up the Minecraft chat limit faster?
Yes. Every stacked combining mark is an extra character in the text, so heavy glitch intensity on a long sentence reaches the chat length cap much sooner than plain text would.
Glitch text on Roblox
Roblox filters all text on the platform, including chat and display names. Its display-name help page says Japanese characters are in beta “with additional character support planned for the future”, and doesn’t mention combining marks.
Key takeaway: Roblox usernames (the @handle) allow only letters, numbers and one underscore. Display names can be changed once every seven days and are filtered, and Roblox doesn’t say glitch text is allowed in them, so don’t count on it.
| Field | Limit | Glitch safety | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Account Username (@handle) | 3–20 characters | Blocked | Letters, numbers and one underscore only. |
| Display Name | Not published | Restricted | Filtered; changeable once every seven days. |
| In-experience Chat | Not published | Moderate | Filtered; profanity is rephrased. |
How to avoid getting rejected on Roblox
- Account Usernames: 3–20 characters, letters and numbers only, with at most one underscore that isn’t at the start or end. No glitch text.
- Display Names: Roblox’s display-name rules don’t mention combining marks, and you can change the name only once every seven days.
- Chat Filter: since 5 March 2026, Roblox rephrases profanity in in-experience chat into more respectful language instead of showing ###, for age-checked users in similar age groups. Other filtered text can still be hidden, so keep glitch text light and the words readable.
- Age Checks: since January 2026, Roblox requires an age check to use chat, and players aged 12 and younger have their chats filtered for inappropriate content and for personal information.
Roblox templates
- Roblox Profile Bio Header:
⚠️ // c̷u̷r̷s̷e̷d̷ // ⚠️(Frame one lightly glitched word with plain symbols so the text stays readable.)
Can I use glitch text as my Roblox username?
No. Roblox usernames can only contain letters, numbers, and one underscore.
Why did my glitch text get rewritten instead of turning into hashtags (####)?
Since 5 March 2026, Roblox rephrases profanity in in-experience chat into more respectful language instead of showing ###. If your glitch text was rewritten, the filter most likely read it as profanity. Other filtered text can still be hidden. Lower the intensity sliders so the words stay readable.
Does Roblox filter glitch text differently for kids and adults?
Roblox filters chat for everyone, and its help center says players aged 12 and younger have their chats filtered both for inappropriate content and to prevent personal information from being posted. Since January 2026, chat also requires an age check.
Glitch text on X (Twitter)
X documents how it counts post length: text is normalized to Unicode NFC, then each code point is counted, and the combining marks this generator uses (U+0300–U+036F) count as one character each. How they look depends on the reader’s device.
Key takeaway: Standard posts have a 280-character limit, and every stacked combining mark counts as 1 character against it. A single heavily glitched word can use dozens. X Premium accounts can post up to 25,000 characters.
| Field | Limit | Glitch safety | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Account Handle (@username) | 15 characters | Blocked | Only letters, numbers, and underscores. |
| Display Name | 50 characters | Safe | Visible above every post you send. |
| Profile Bio | 160 characters | Moderate | Leave room for links and hashtags. |
| Standard Post | 280 characters | Safe | Every combining mark counts toward 280. |
| Premium Long Post | 25,000 characters | Safe | Unconstrained space for creative fiction and threads. |
How to avoid getting rejected on X (Twitter)
- Profile Bio: 160-character limit. Keep intensity moderate to leave room for links and hashtags.
- Account Display Name: 50-character limit. This is the place on your profile to try glitch text, since your @handle can’t hold it.
- Post Character Budget: For standard accounts (280 chars), use glitch text on 1–3 punchy words rather than full paragraphs.
X (Twitter) templates
- Tweet Hook Glitch:
BREAKING: d̷a̷t̷a̷ ̷l̷o̷s̷s̷ detected(Use glitch text on the first line to stop scrollers in the feed.)
Does glitch text count toward the 280-character Twitter limit?
Yes. X counts each Unicode code point, and the combining marks this generator uses count as one character each. A 5-letter word with 4 combining marks per letter counts as 25 characters against your 280 budget.
Can I put glitch text in my X account name?
Your @handle can’t: it only allows letters, numbers and underscores. Your display name (up to 50 characters) is the place to try it; check how it looks after saving.
Does X's Unicode normalization strip my glitch text?
No. X normalizes posts to Unicode NFC before counting characters. NFC can merge a letter and an accent into one precomposed character (e + ◌́ becomes é) and puts stacked marks in a standard order, but there is no precomposed form for a letter with a dozen marks on it, so the rest of the marks stay and each still counts toward the 280-character limit.
What is Unicode normalization, and does it affect glitch text?
Some platforms — X (Twitter) is the clearest documented example — normalize text to Unicode Normalization Form C (NFC)before counting or storing it. NFC's job is narrow: it recomposes a base letter followed by a single combining accent into one precomposed character, so "e" + a combining acute accent becomes "é" as a single code point instead of two.
That barely touches glitch or zalgo text. There's no precomposed Unicode character for "a letter with a dozen combining marks stacked on it", so normalization has nowhere to fold those marks into. It can merge the first accent into its letter and put the rest in a standard order, but every mark stays and the text looks the same. Practically: normalization doesn't make heavy glitch text safer to use in a tight field, and it doesn't strip the effect either. See Unicode combining characters for how the marks themselves work.
Frequently asked questions
Which platform has the tightest character limit for glitch text?
Of the limits platforms actually publish, TikTok profile names (30 characters) and Discord nicknames (32) are the tightest fields where glitch text makes sense. Minecraft signs are limited by width rather than a published count. Keep intensity low for all of them.
Why does the same glitch text fit in one app but get cut off in another?
Because fields count length differently, and most platforms don't document how they count combining marks. X is the clearest documented case: each mark counts as one character. Display-width-limited fields like Minecraft signs cap how much fits visually, not how many characters you typed. This generator's renderability badge shows marks per character, which is the number that drives all of this.
Does Unicode normalization strip or merge glitch text's combining marks?
No. NFC normalization can merge a base letter and one accent into a single precomposed character (like é) and puts stacked marks in a standard order, but there's no precomposed form for a letter with a dozen combining marks on it. The marks stay, the text looks the same, and each mark still counts toward whatever limit applies. In our Slack test, NFC reordered marks but kept every one.
